ABOUT

I believe in the power of stories as avenues for us to become better people — to become more educated, empathetic, and inspired to act. As a woman and person of color, I am passionate about highlighting individuals from underrepresented or marginalized communities and providing accurate storytelling of their victories and issues. I also deeply believe that journalism is one of the best ways to shine a light on injustice, to hold individuals accountable, and to provide gateways for change.

I graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park in May 2023 with a bachelor's degree in Journalism and Criminology & Criminal Justice. While I was a student there, I worked at The Diamondback — the university's independent student-run newspaper — for nearly four years in various roles, including copy chief, assistant managing editor and section editor for arts and culture stories. I also was a data and graphics reporter for Capital News Service, a wire news service affiliated with the university, and a reporting intern for two projects under the Howard Center for Investigative Journalism.

Now, as The Frederick News-Post's health, environment and nonprofits reporter, I use my deep knowledge of Frederick County in Maryland to craft stories based on my conversations with residents and organizations, reporting what they care about the most, and localize national issues to this community to show tangible impacts up close.

My mission in all of my stories, whether they're in print or conveyed through photos and visuals, is to bring up topics that people might not think about and prompt self-reflection. I always strive to learn and develop my literary style and voice, approaching every challenge I come across as an experience to develop as a writer, and aim to create meaningful stories that will impact people in a way that will help them grow.
